My pirate character is based on the real-life Welsh pirate Bartholomew Roberts, also known as 'Black Bart,' who hailed from the Pembrokeshire village of Little Newcastle, or Casnewydd Bach. Bart wasn't the typical pirate as he didn't like alcohol, cavorting with women and unlike my character, wasn't keen on gambling. Despite the differences, they both achieved notoriety and success on the high seas.
