Desperate times call for extreme survival tactics during a heatwave...
This week’s strip is a complete, top-to-bottom redraw of a comic I originally published seven years ago. Back then, "NORTHMAN" was a fledgling spin-off featured directly on my blog, "To Baldly Go...", and this gag was only strip #6 in the run—so safe to say, the artwork was pretty raw!
With the latest record-breaking heatwaves, the premise felt just as relevant today as it did back in 2019. However, rather than just updating the old files, I scrapped the original artwork entirely and built this version from the ground up using my current drawing techniques.
I also expanded the layout from the original two frames into a four-panel strip. Giving the setup two extra panels really helped the pacing and allowed the joke to carry much better. None of the 2019 line work remains, but the desperate quest for sub-zero cooling is as authentic as ever.
